First Week Logistics and Coats

Found this at the Palais de Tokyo in the Fresh Hell show and I couldn't resist! We visited the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and I will return to see the Basquiat show before it closes January 30.

Right now, I have the best job in the world. I am researching and visiting museums in Paris to figure out when and if I can bring my classes to see all sorts of incredible art in person! We have an odd schedule so I have two of my classes twice this week and we are going to go on some adventures tomorrow! Thus, things have been busy and I have a lot to report and no time to report it! Next week is much more "normal" and I hope to catch up. Saturday we are going to visit Versailles!

Currently the weather in Paris is much warmer than I anticipated (high 40 s - 50 s (F)) and thus I had to look for a coat appropriate to the temperatures. It is the perfect time to "have" to make a purchase in Paris in that the annual sales started on 12 Janvier (January 12th).

The sales last 6 weeks and this is the only time merchandise is discounted. Having to make a few purchases on basic goods, I am very happy for the sales - Pillows cost a fortune here, I saw one pillow that was 169 Euro and another nearing 300 Euro (I had to wonder if they had gilded the goose down?) Towels are much more expensive than at home, however, various food items are far less expensive so it probably all "shakes out." I found the Lidl - which is similar to Aldi in the US and Germany and they have excellent prices on a wonderful assortment of goods!
I looked in a few stores for coats/light jackets but everything seemed rather "normal" and while the prices were okay it didn't say 'Paris' and unique to me, until I found a charming little shop with all sorts of distinctive apparel. Drawn to a short coat with colorful accents I then saw a coat made completely from the distinctive fabric. I know it's rather obnoxious, but I love it!

The fabric is felted and seems a bit delicate, and the scarf has pockets which can serve as mittens. I did see another coat of this fashion today on the street and while it was a few Euro less it was not as fun!
Whitney and I were researching museums today and I will tell you more about the museums I have visited thus far soon, but she drew my attention to another "funky" and "fun" shop and I bought another coat that screams "Unique" to me as well. Don't worry, I am Done buying coats and should be appropriately warm and cool for the rest of the trip!
