Sculpture in the park around the Chateau
In the Fall of 2007 I shepherded 38 students around France, England, Germany, & Switzerland during a Quarter Abroad trip and our home base was the Chateau de Pourtales in Strasbourg, France. Strasbourg is one of those places that "gets in your blood," and once you have visited, no matter how briefly, you will want to return and see it again. That is especially true if you have the great pleasure of staying at the Chateau de Pourtales. I was lucky enough to call this castle my "home" for three months of my life and returning was very much like coming "home."
"Built in 1750, the Chateau de Pourtales is one of the great landmarks of Strasboug. Countess Melanie de Bussiere, well known throughout Europe for her beauty and her "savoir vivre", was the hostess for celebrities such as King Ludwig of Bavaria, Prince Napoleon, Emperor Wilhelm, Franz Liszt, and Albert Schweitzer."
While the Chateau is stunningly beautiful and a comfortable "castle" to spend a night or two, it is the fantastic staff that makes your experience memorable. If you are driving the 'Route de Vin', visiting the Strasbourg EU, a ghost hunter searching for Melanie, making a pilgrimage to Mont St. Odile, stopping to see where they are filming the new Sherlock Holmes movie, or if you are just passing through the area - stop and stay at the Chateau de Pourtales! Be sure to say Hello from me!
HOME!!! I miss this place so much! I am so happy you were able to go back!
